ACHIEVING GREATNESS THROUGH EMPOWERMENT

“We work to empower women in Africa, India and Bangladesh into taking action in their communities, speaking out on important issues for women and children, being powerful decision makers, setting the agenda for development and transformation and ultimately being leaders for the end of hunger. MECCA's ongoing generous support means we can educate and train women in our program countries to build the confidence, skills and power to transform the status of women and girls: from discriminated against, to valued and equal members of their communities.”

WHY MECCA AND THE HUNGER PROJECT?

Why MECCA & The Hunger Project

“When I first came across The Hunger Project in Australia and learned of the work they’ve been doing in the developing world, I knew MECCA just had to be involved in some way. I believe that when women empower and support one another we can achieve greatness; The Hunger Project helps women become agents of change within their communities and we feel honoured to be able to help shine a light on such a powerful initiative. ”

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY – MARCH 8, 2016

A day devoted to women? We couldn’t be more on board; let’s all get our elbows out and help to push this year’s #PledgeForParity theme front and centre into the global spotlight it so deserves.

This year, we put our money where our mouth is and

donated 10% of all sales on mecca.com.au on March 8

to our favourite women’s charity initiative, The Hunger Project — to help further the important work they do to empower women in developing communities all over the world.

“March 8 is a wonderful pause point for women all over the world to consider what we’ve achieved collectively – and all that there is still to do! As the founder of a company created for women and run by (mostly) women, I’m thrilled that the issue of parity is in the spotlight as it so desperately needs and deserves the air time. I pledge to help women and girls get their share: equal rights, equal pay, equal superannuation, and equal education.”
