40 years in fashion. 1 cult beauty brand. 100,000+ insta followers. 1 dependent poodle.

Former model, fashion editor, and celebrity stylist, Linda Rodin switched career gears at the age of 59 with the launch of her signature face oil and a brand that has since become one of planet beauty’s favourite success stories. Why we love Linda: her life well lived, her inimitable personal style (undone updo, oversized opticals, bold lip always), and her keeping-it-real New Yorkerness. Over to you, Linda:

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN:

“Well I was never a “successful” model—I was always too short and not really right—but what it did teach me though, was how hard it is to be judged from the outside and that being comfortable in one’s own skin is key! I feel my best and most comfortable when I am in tune with myself. And, feeling confident gives me the green light to dress in a way that suits me. I think I am quite classic in my style, but always with a twist – a colourful bag or a modish shoe. I like to feel original and classic and simple. When I was younger, perhaps I was more “experimental.” In the 70s I got a “Klute” haircut…but, of course, I was no Jane Fonda and I had very, very, very curly hair!

It’s upsetting that 18 year olds are getting Botox and fillers. What will older women look like in the future? Scary thought.”

"I feel the most beautiful when I feel respected and admired for what I’ve done in my life."

ON ACCEPTING THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES:

“It’s not easy. Honestly, it’s difficult to look at a photo from today and see my wrinkles, and veiny, spotted hands. But, I’m closer to 70 than even 60, so it’s ok. Personally, I know I would hate the alternative – Botox etc. and being stretched and pulled – so I try my best to just accept my ageing and most importantly, be healthy! Health is wealth.

I think it’s wonderful that older women [think Iris Apfel, Carmen dell’Orefice, Joan Didion] are being celebrated! Why not? There are so many of us! I hope we are not a passing fancy...”

ON WHAT MAKES SOMEONE BEAUTIFUL:

“I notice the overall look of someone – I don’t pick them apart and just notice one feature at a time. Someone can have the most beautiful eyes and not the most perfect nose and be the most exquisite creature. Perfection for me is not beauty – it’s one’s elegance and grace and how it all comes together.

One’s outer beauty is nice of course but if you don’t feel good internally, the rest doesn’t matter. I feel the most beautiful when I feel respected and admired for what I’ve done in my life – personally and professionally.”

ON GRAMMING @LINDANDWINKS:

“Instagram is fun for me on two levels: I love taking photos and now I have a lovely place to share them. My Instagram is personal and not business driven; it’s me, my friends, my home and of course, my pooch, Winky. The other level is that for me, it’s like going to a visual library where I discover amazing people and places I never knew existed – from obscure artists, musicians, vintage clothing, and movie stars, to places here on earth I am seeing for the first time. I love the discoveries I make on Instagram.”
