This season's Ready-To-Wear collections were awash with bold statements and new hair and makeup moves. While runways create trends for maximum impact, MECCA's Head of Artistry Tony Baumann explains just how easy it is to work them your way.

Almost Back to Black

This is not for the shy, but when worn with confidence, this rouge-noir lip is as powerful as it gets. The good news? "This trend is universally flattering, suits every skin tone and makes teeth look whiter", MECCA's Head of Artistry Tony Baumann says. “The key is finding the right texture and finish for you.” For an off-duty vibe, Baumann suggests opting for a gloss, stain or diffused matte lip in the same kind of decadent hue as seen at Marni.

    Hyper-Real Skin

The complexion trend of the season, this is skin at its most beautiful; more flawless and yet more real than ever. Baumann’s pro tip: “layer light-reflecting correctors and luminisers like By Terry’s Lumi Serum before foundation. Light-diffusing particles blur imperfections while giving a beautiful 3D finish to the skin.” Backstage, superstar makeup artist Pat McGrath lavished iridescent powder to finish off the most beautiful skin at Valentino and Gucci.

Makeup maestro Peter Phillips kicked off the technicolour liner trend at Fendi, generously applying electric blues, purples and oranges to models backstage. And while you might hesitate at the idea of exaggerated, coloured liner, this version remixes the classic (feline flicks) with the modern (audacious colour) to very cool, flattering effect. Off the runway, keep lips and skin fresh and neutral to make this flash of colour really pop. Baumann's tip: "Skip the mascara and brush brows up for a modern spin."

    Textured and Set Brows

A distinct move away from the filled-in 'precision' brow trend, this look is "all about adding texture and strength to existing hairs-rather than filling in the gaps", Baumann explains. And while runways showcased extreme versions of this structured style as created by the Nars Artistry team — name–checking: Rodarte, Creatures of the Wind and Toga — this textured-and-set update's real-life translation is tailored, bushy brows that reference Cara Delevingne and Ashley Olsen. [Read: young and fresh.] MECCA Pro tip: Try a coloured gel for extra strength or even mascara for a bolder-than-bolder take. For added definition, use a powder-wax pencil through the ends of the brow to finish the look.

    Ballet Beautiful

Every season we see the quintessential up-do that captures the mood of the moment. This season's fresh take is the low-slung double bun. Sleek but not severe, this look is both incredibly chic and easy to recreate. Start by prepping hair with a styling primer. Create a deep side part and divide hair into two ponytails, fastening at the nape of the neck. Twist each ponytail into a ballet-inspired bun and secure with bobby pins. Finish by spritzing hair with an oil spray for maximum shine and polish.
